The Energy & Biodiversity Initiative

The products developed by the Energy and Biodiversity Initiative (EBI) over the past two and a half years are now publicly available, and can be downloaded from the EBI website. The EBI is a partnership between four energy companies and five international conservation organisations, to produce valuable products that better integrate biodiversity considerations into oil and gas operations. These include practical guidelines, tools and models to improve environmental performance, minimize harm to biodiversity, and maximize opportunities for conservation.

The IPIECA-OGP Biodiversity Working Group broadly supports the EBI objectives and products, including the recommendations in the context they are presented in the EBI report. The BDWG has agreed to work with the EBI to increase awareness of the EBI products within the oil and gas industry.

Operations in Sensitive Areas

Through a comprehensive series of over 30 company case studies, IPIECA aims to:
- demonstrate that minimal impact operations are achievable in a diverse range of environmental and social settings;
- actively exchange company experiences and best practices;
- provide a basis for discussion with groups outside the industry to promote improvements in industry performance.

The "Oil and Gas Industry: Operating in Sensitive Environments" brochure provides a summary of these case studies and describes key management features (such as stakeholder consultation, environmental protection guidelines and impact assessment). The publication is also available in Spanish.
