Health Performance Indicators

Indicators for the health performance of the industry are a necessary part of effective health management and the promotion of improvements in health performance. Currently there is no globally applied set of performance indicators within the oil and gas industry. This document updates the 1999 OGP publication 'Health Performance Indicators' (Report 6.78/290) in the context of recently agreed guidance on voluntary sustainability reporting (API/IPIECA, 2005) and the growth of health management standards.

Updated Travel Guide

The dispersed nature of the multinational facilities of the oil and gas industry leads to extensive international and transoceanic travel at all organisational levels. This booklet gives some simple travel health guidance notes that can either be used and distributed to employees ‘as is’, or adapted for use as part of an ‘in-house’ health management programme.

Managing Workplace Stress

This Guide is designed to help oil industry managers and supervisors understand, recognize, and deal effectively with stress in the workplace. It aims to encourage and enable an holistic approach to the management of workplace stress, with a focus on prevention. The Guide is designed to complement current practice, which tends to focus more on developing employee ability to cope with stress and, when this fails, on treatment options.

A Roadmap to Health Risk Assessment in the Oil and Gas Industry

The OGP-IPIECA Health Risk Assessment (HRA) document provides an introduction to HRA processes in general as well as a CD-based template giving examples of HRA specific implementation, and is designed to provide a customizable tool that members can use to evaluate the potential for individual harm and protect against adverse exposures in the workplace. The document explains the basics of HRA, including health hazard identification, health risk evaluation, setting priorities, reducing risks and taking remedial actions, formulating remediation action plans and finally recording the HRA itself.

HIV/AIDS Management

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which leads to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), has become one of the most serious public health challenges of modern times. The increasing prevalence of AIDS and the lack of a permanent cure threaten to seriously disrupt normal commercial activity. This growing and very real business issue must be carefully and responsibly managed to maximize the protection afforded to our employees, and to minimize the social, business and economic impacts on oil and gas industry operations.

A Guide to Health Impact Assessments in the Oil and Gas Industry

This Guide aims to describe the overall HIA process as it is currently understood and practised. HIA is a useful and beneficial tool for business, communities and government policy makers. Experience within the oil and gas industry suggests that health is a critical issue both to the project workforce and the surrounding communities. The oil and gas industry faces a complex agenda that increasingly requires an evaluation of health, social and environmental impacts throughout all of its operations.
