Oil Spill Conferences: Interspill
Interspill was established in 1997 by the British Oil Spill Control Association (BOSCA – Now UKSpill), The French equipment manufacturers association (SYCOPOL) and the Norweigan Oil Spill Control Association (NOSCA). Till recently, it was held on a biennial basis in Brighton, Brest and Trøndheim. IPIECA and EMSA have now joined this list of supporters with the fourth conference, which took place in March 2006 alongside the Spill 06 Exhibition in the prestigious ExCeL conference and exhibition centre in London's docklands. Interspill now forms part of the three year conference cycle, with IOSC and Spillcon.
Interspill 2009, Marseille, France, 12-14 May 2009
The international oil spill conference, Interspill 2009, took place from 12-14 May 2009 in Marseille, France. The event was a great success with over 1000 delegates from all over the world attending the conference.
The theme for this event, “Working Together”, highlighted the importance of cooperation in the prevention of and response to oil spill incidents. Building on the theme for the Conference, the 4th International Maritime Organization (IMO) Research and Development Forum was also held alongside the event with a theme “Hazardous and Noxious Substances in the Marine Environment.” IPIECA is a member of the Steering Committee which was in charge of planning for the Conference.

A record number of delegates, exhibitors, day visitors and presenters attended the Interspill 2006 Conference which took place in London on 21-23 March 2006. From the quality of the papers, to the professionalism of the exhibitors, and the sheer numbers attending, the event has exceeded our expectations in every respect” commented Conference Chairman Archie Smith (OSRL/Alliance). “To see more than 1500 people from 71 countries attending put the conference and exhibition onto an international scale and completes industry’s expectation for the three year cycle of events”, he added.
