IMO/IPIECA Global Initiative
In 1996, the Global Initiative (GI) - a joint programme between IPIECA and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) - was formally launched in South Africa. Then, as now, its aim was to enhance oil spill preparedness and response capacity for marine spills at priority locations around the World. Many years on, the partners have much to congratulate themselves on - and much more work still to do!
