Human Rights and the Oil & Gas Industry in Sub-Saharan Africa

IPIECA held the fifth human rights workshop in their regional series on 26 – 27th February 2009, co-sponsored and hosted by Chevron Corporation and the IPIECA Social Responsibility Working Group.

This workshop brought together diverse and high-level human rights experts from academia, business, governments, and international and non-governmental organizations to:

  • discuss a range of human rights-related topics including development and health
  • hear from experts on human rights impact assessments and security issues
  • listen to case studies on Nigeria and the mining industry
  • participate in small group training based around scenario discussions, and learn about IPIECA social responsibility guidance and tools
