Health and safety performance indicators - 2012 data
June 2013In 2007 the OGP-IPIECA Health Committee published the ‘Health Performance Indicators – a guide for the oil and gas industry’ report. The principles described in that report were used to develop two tools: the first indicated the extent of management of the 8 areas across each participating company globally; the second allowed for in-depth analysis at site and corporate level. Results provided were first published in October 2012 presenting data from 2008-2011. During 2012, the OGP-IPIECA Health Committee collected the data and responses from 16 participating companies and eventually developed the 2012 Health Performance Indicators report. This report provides a good indication of the health management performance for each company and helps to identify weak areas and areas for improvement.

Marine Geospatial Bibliography
May 2013The MGB is a free online tool developed to centralise reports, papers and environmental research on oil and gas activities in marine environments. The MGB makes such information easy to find, search and summarise, and each resource is geospatially referenced. IPIECA invites you to search for information through the map or search fields, or to help us extend our bibliography by submitting a resource. Vector-borne disease management programmes
March 2013This guide is aimed at health, safety and environment practitioners, as well as medical personnel and health risks managers working for the oil and gas industry. It is especially relevant for managers and supervisors located in, or responsible for, personnel working in areas where vector-borne diseases (VBDs) are endemic. It outlines the importance of vector-borne diseases, including malaria, and their potential impact on operations, and provides guidance on the design of appropriate vector-borne disease management programmes (VBDMPs).

Performance indicators for fatigue risk management systems
March 2013This IPIECA-OGP Health Committee publication provides an approach to developing performance indicators for a fatigue risk management system (FRMS). Historically, the risk associated with fatigue was largely managed by limiting the number of hours worked. However, there is increasing understanding that hours-of-service limits by themselves may not achieve the objective of managing risk from fatigue. This, together with the restrictive impact on operations, has led industry and regulators to move away from using rules based solely on hours of work, and instead adopt a more comprehensive style of fatigue risk management using fatigue risk management systems (FRMS). This document contains proposals for possible performance indicators that could be used to monitor the effectiveness of an FRMS.

Collaborating to improve reforestation and reclamation of boreal forests: OSLI case study
February 2013This case study is about the Oil Sands Leadership Initiative (OSLI), a collaboration of oil sands developers in Canada who undertook to demonstrate enhanced environmental performance, using on-the-ground initiatives to reduce impacts on biodiversity in the boreal forests of the oil sands region. Specifically, the OSLI began an initiative addressing disturbed sites, with the objective of accelerating reforestation; this has become known as the Faster Forests program.
