Today marks the UN International Day for Biological Diversity. This year’s theme is ‘Sustainable Tourism for Development’. Species richness, ecosystems and landscapes provide an important foundation for many aspects of tourism, which can promote economic growth.
IPIECA has been supporting its members for many years to enable oil and gas companies to make a positive contribution to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services (BES). IPIECA aims to aid companies in their work to responsibly integrate BES management throughout the life cycle of oil and gas operations.
Through the development of key guidance and reference documents, such as the BES Fundamentals guidance, regular engagement with stakeholders and external outreach, IPIECA is able to help ‘raise the bar’ on industry-wide biodiversity and ecosystem services management.
IPIECA also works closely with the World Conservation Monitoring Centre to monitor and track emerging biodiversity issues relating to the industry enabling a proactive response on behalf of the sector.
