IPIECA was at the 21st World Petroleum Congress that took place from 16-19 June in Moscow, Russia to represent the industry’s work on enabling environmental and social performance improvements. Activities included IPIECA Executive Director, Brian Sullivan participating in a panel session titled, ‘Where are we now in the climate change agenda?’ alongside speakers from the World Bank and the International Emissions Trading Association. The session was chaired by Hege Marie Norheim, Statoil.
IPIECA also held a 40th anniversary celebratory reception where speakers included Randy Gossen, former Chair of both IPIECA and WPC and Kjerstin Skeidsvoll Lange, Statoil. Both Randy and Kjerstin used the opportunity to thank IPIECA for its work over the past forty years in convening the industry and providing a forum for the industry to proactively address critical environmental and social issues.
Other activities included a presentation on the IPIECA-IMO Global Initiative and IPIECA-OGP Oil Spill Response Joint Industry Project delivered by Peter Taylor, GI OSPRI Coordinator in a special session on emergency preparedness and industry cooperation as well as Anja Sinke, BP representing the IPIECA Remediation Task Force while chairing a session on best practices in remediation initiatives.
Two IPIECA workshops were held in the Social Responsibility Global Village, one on human rights, delivered by Roper Cleland, Senior Manager Social Responsibility, and the second on sustainability reporting, delivered by Helen Murphy, Communications and Reporting Manager.
