IPIECA presented at the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) ‘Accelerator Symposium’ which discussed mobilizing fuel economy targets on 5 September 2014 in Paris, France. The targets aim for a 50% reduction in fuel consumption of all light vehicles by 2050, compared to 2005. This meeting was held in preparation for the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s Climate Summit being held in New York, USA on 23 September 2014 where GFEI will be showcased as a key transport initiative.
IPIECA supports GFEI’s objective of improving car fuel economy highlighting the industry’s expertise in:
- supplier & marketer perspective on fuel issues
- fuel technology insights to ensure compatibility with vehicle engines as the ‘vehicle-fuel’ is a single system
- communication of fuel efficient practices to fuel users given their regular interface with car users
The GFEI Symposium hosted by the French Government at the Ministry of Ecology Sustainable Development and Energy provided a forum for countries, experts, NGOs and the private sector to advance the agenda on fuel economy globally.
