IPIECA had a significant presence at the International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) 2014 in Savannah, Georgia, from 5 - 8 May. During the event IPIECA presented on oil spill response capability and capacity and held a dedicated session on the IPIECA-IMO Global Initiative (GI) Programme which included presentations on the GI for West, Central and Southern Africa (GI WACAF), the Caspian Sea, Black Sea and Central Eurasia (OSPRI) and South East Asia (GI SEA). Members of the IPIECA-OGP JIP presented on Risk Assessment issues for offshore spill response planning (JIP 6) and on assessment protocols for Oil Spill Response Organisations (OSROs).
IPIECA joined with Oil Spill Response Limited, the Sea Alarm foundation, the Oil Spill Response-Joint Industry Project and the Global Response Network to field a large stand which integrated these complementary activities. The exhibition space was particularly active with a great deal of interaction between industry members and stakeholders involved in oil spill response and preparedness. IPIECA also sponsored the pre-dinner reception that was attended by 450 guests.
The next conference in the triennial series will be Interspill in March 2015 in Amsterdam. As both a member of the Executive Committee and a chair of Interspill Limited, IPIECA is taking an active organisational role in this European-based conference.
