IPIECA member Paola Pedroni (eni), Chair of the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services working group, will present on ‘Energy and Conservation: Robust management framework for oil and gas developments in natural and protected environments’ at the World Parks Congress event in Sydney, Australia, 17 November 2014. Her presentation will form part of a panel session on ‘Extractives, energy and responsible investments (part 2): Solutions’. The overarching focus of her presentation will be on the oil and gas industry’s approach to respecting the conservation of natural and protected environments while meeting the growing demand of fossil fuel-based energy.
The presentation will be followed by a three hour side event co-hosted by IPIECA and United Nations Environment Programme’s World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) at the Protected Planet Pavilion. There, eight IPIECA members - BG, BP, Chevron, eni, Saudi Aramaco, Shell, Total, Woodside – will showcase case studies on the work of oil and gas companies to support protected areas management and conservation and effectively manage and mitigate impact in, and in the vicinity of, protected areas.
