IPIECA attended the annual meeting of the Oil Spill Preparedness Regional Initiative (OSPRI) for the Caspian Sea, Black Sea and Central Eurasia which took place in Istanbul on 21 January 2014.
During the meeting OSPRI members reviewed the 2014 business plan, which aims to expand the current work programme with a continued focus on Kazakhstan. Other issues discussed included the guidelines for OSPRI members, the 2013 and 2014 budgets, the 2013 annual report and the potential addition of two new members. Andy Nicoll, Manager of Oil Spill Response Limited presented an update on recent technical activities, including work undertaken with the IPIECA-OGP Oil Spill Response-Joint Industry Project.
Also highlighted was a series of workshops organised by the Norwegian Embassy in Baku and the Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners (INTSOK) in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, SOCAR, Statoil and Caspian Drilling Company. On 29 October, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan hosted the first workshop on emission reduction, oil spill prevention and clean-up technologies. The following day SOCAR held a workshop at the Oil and Gas Scientific Research Project Institute on the following topics: improved oil recovery, increased safety in construction and drilling, innovative instrument solutions and cleaner production. The last workshop was hosted by Caspian Drilling Company and focused on technologies and services for drilling.
