IPIECA held its first regional Responsible Security Workshop on 21-22 October 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, hosted by Petronas. The workshop was focused on the Asia-Pacific region and attendees included community and security practitioners from Anadarko, BP, Chevron, Petronas, Shell, Technip and Total.
The workshop included presentations on human rights governance looking at the framework used to structure, manage and audit a security program from a human rights perspective. The relevance, importance and limitations of the available guidelines, principle and standards were discussed, together with the implications of company policies and codes of conduct.
Scenario based case studies were used to foster dialogue and learning on key issues including:
- Approaches to negotiating a security agreement
- Methods of managing a liaison relationship and establishing a Memorandum of Understanding
- Managing relationships internally and mounting tensions with community and international NGOs
Let IPIECA know if you would be interested in hosting a regional workshop on responsible security.
