IPIECA has published a new guidance providing a summary and explanation of a number of water risk tools, including the IPIECA Global Water Tool for Oil and Gas, a customised version of the WBCSD Global Water Tool, and the GEMI Local Water Tool™ for Oil and Gas.
This document describes, compares and contrasts the attributes and merits of several water tools from an oil and gas industry perspective. It has two main objectives:
- To describe the oil and gas industry’s current use of water tools, drawing on the relevant experiences and lessons learned by IPIECA members.
- To present concise facts and comparative information on the most widely adopted water risk tools to aid IPIECA members in understanding the differences, underpinning data sets and risk mapping capabilities, and also their potential applications and operational benefits.
