IPIECA hosted a workshop on incident management in Houston, USA on 7 October.
The workshop convened community and security practitioners from IPIECA member companies and focused on incident management, investigation and resolution. Two scenario based case studies were used to foster dialogue and a panel discussion was convened with speakers representing the legal and community perspective on security management.
There were over 30 attendees, including representatives of the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), both of whom IPIECA will be collaborating with in 2015 on responsible security. Previous workshop topics include managing public and private security forces and the process of delivering effective risk assessments and community engagement.
IPIECA has been working on responsible security since 2011 and aims to share good practices on the implementation of the Voluntary Principles for Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) and other responsible security programmes. More recent efforts have focused on facilitating peer-learning workshops to exchange knowledge and identify practical, field-level good practice.
