This document provides background, starting-point references and resources to help regulators, engineers, refiners and marketers plan and execute the phase out of leaded gasoline. It features extracts from documents written by Ipieca members, NGOs and environmental protection agencies, refiners, marketers, commercial organizations and consultants. The removal of alkyl lead additives in the time-frame suggested by recent intergovernmental declarations and resolutions will result in difficult choices and compromises having to be made by governments and refiners in countries that have yet to complete the lead phase out process
