The Citizens Energy Congress, taking place virtually on 15-16 June 2021, will bring together a broad spectrum of energy industry professionals, policy makers, investors and civil society. Together, these groups will challenge the concepts and constraints of the existing energy models and foster consensus-driven foundations for a low carbon energy system.
The 2-day agenda will address the difficult questions facing the energy industry as it strives to balance energy access and climate change commitments. The broad audience will facilitate a balanced debate between all stakeholders from producers, end users, technology and service providers to investors, policy makers and civil society.
Ipieca Executive Director Brian Sullivan will be participating in a session on How can we meet the anticipated demand growth in energy whilst slashing emissions? on 15 June, 15:35-16:20.
Session topics: The world's population is expected to grow by 2 billion, from 7.7 billion to 9.7 billion by 2050. How should the energy transition differ between developed - and developing - countries? Currently more than 1 billion people have no access to electricity, and nearly 3 billion have no access to clean cooking fuels (relying on high-polluting energy sources).
Attendee insights: Access to affordable and reliable energy sources are top priorities for world leaders who have the responsibility to ensure countries have access to the resources they need to survive and economically develop alleviating energy poverty. A key session gathering expert insights on how to successfully meet energy demand creating sustainable energy for all, gain profitable returns whilst reducing and mitigating carbon and methane emissions.
