Taking place in Colombia, 21 October - 1 November, COP16 is the first biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) at COP15 in 2022.

COP16 is seen as the first implementation COP. Governments will be asked to review how they have implemented the GBF and show how their national biodiversity strategies and action plans align with the GBF.

Attended by participants from over 190 countries, COP16 will bring together governments, observer organizations, indigenous communities, businesses, youth groups, civil society academia and the general public.

COP16 is expected to highlight the importance of Indigenous Peoples to protecting and enhancing nature. With its focus on implementation, COP16 will also serve as a platform for businesses to signal their support of the GBF and demonstrate how they are part of the solution.
