Ipieca’s role at CBD COPs is to listen to negotiations, feedback the outcomes to our members and integrate them into our workstreams and guidance. Ipieca also organizes its own on-site events and participates in other organizations’ events focused on supporting business to implement biodiversity action.
The Ipieca delegation at UN CBD COP events includes Ipieca secretariat members as well as biodiversity and social performance experts from Ipieca member companies. This is a real value add to stakeholders attending from UN, IGO and NGO organizations: Ipieca provides the opportunity to engage with a significant number of leading industry sustainability experts, accelerating action or facilitating insights from the industry.
When requested, Ipieca takes part in pre-COP technical consultations, workshops and meetings. These provide the scientific and technical knowledge that negotiators at COP events need to make informed, ambitious policy decisions.
Ipieca supported the development of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) adopted at COP15, providing industry technical feedback on a draft version on making the GBF relevant to the industry and as ambitious as possible.
