The 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held from 6 to 17 November in Bonn, Germany, under the Presidency of Fiji. Ipieca will attend and will host a side-event on a key topic related to the transformation of the energy system and the technologies needed to reach a low-emissions future. Alongside the UN General Assembly in September 2017, Ipieca, UNDP, IFC, and ICMM will host a lunchtime event looking at the role of the oil, gas and mining industries in the 2030 Agenda, with a particular focus on how partnerships and participation can help accelerate progress in achieving the SDGs.
Carbon Capture and Storage is seen as a key technology for the continued use of fossil fuels, and maximizing energy from the available 'carbon budget'. Ipieca has identified CCS as a key technology in meeting the Paris Agreement aims in its latest publication, Exploring Low Emissions Pathways. This workshop will bring together participants from across the oil and gas sector and expert communities to actively discuss the role, barriers, and opportunities of CCS.
This year's World Water Week will take place from 27 August - 1 September 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden. The event convenes the scientific, business, policy and civic communities to discuss and share knowledge on global water issues and develop solutions to the most pressing water-related challenges of today. The 2017 World Water Week theme is Water and Waste: Reduce and Reuse.
