Stockholm+50 (2-3 June 2022) is a key international meeting hosted by Sweden and Kenya. The UN convened meeting will celebrate 50 years since the 1972 UN Conference and establishment of UNEP, and raise awareness on the importance of protecting our planet and drive action towards achieving sustainable development.
The overarching theme for business engagement at Stockholm+50 is sustainable value chains. In the 50 years since the 1972 Stockholm Conference, global value chains have increasingly driven the world economy, lifting many people out of poverty, and creating unprecedented aggregate economic value. It has also generated serious unintended consequences that require urgent corrective, interconnected actions on climate, nature, and social equity.
Global leadership is needed from both governments and the business sector to respond to the intertwined crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and rising inequality. The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) together with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is launching the Stockholm Action Agenda and organizing a series of sessions to accelerate the sustainable transformation of global value chains.
How to accelerate the mobility value chain sustainable transformation?
Session overview:
With more than 20% of global emissions coming from road transport, companies are adopting new technologies to reduce emissions. A successful sector transformation can drastically reduce emissions, pollution, and improve social equity. WBCSD Mobility value chain transformation prioritizes zero-emission technology adoption, and efficiency through greater digitalization, circularity, and transparency. Companies can benefit from zero-emission technology adoption and embrace digitalization to realize a step change in operations efficiency. Companies can grasp opportunities associated with circularity by defining shared frameworks for transparency and material reuse that can improve supply chain resilience while reducing emissions. Finally, the private and public sectors must envisage a global breakthrough that would on accelerate investment and capacity building for zero-emission mobility infrastructure investment.
