Map-pinNew York, United States

Alongside the UN General Assembly in September 2017, Ipieca, UNDP, IFC, and ICMM will host a lunchtime event looking at the role of the oil, gas and mining industries in the 2030 Agenda, with a particular focus on how partnerships and participation can help accelerate progress in achieving the SDGs. The event will convene experts from oil, gas and mining industry companies and associations, governments, multilateral organizations, civil society, and academia to engage in an interactive discussion.

The main objectives are to:

  • Better understand the relationship between the oil, gas and mining industries and the SDGs by:
    • Highlighting how the industries can contribute to SDG progress by integrating the goals into business and social investment strategies
    • Examining challenges the industries face and efforts to address these, including climate change and the transition to a future low-carbon economy
  • Explore how multi-stakeholder partnerships and participation can enhance industry contributions to the SDGs, by examining practical examples and sharing experiences from the government, industry and civil society perspectives.

The event will be held under the Chatham House rule.
