  • Webinar: Bridging the gap - social and gender considerations in the energy sector

Part of UNEP's webinar series on key considerations in the energy transition.

This webinar session will discuss social and employment considerations associated with the energy transition, with a focus on ways to encourage women’s representation in the new energy mix. First, we will look at the challenges and opportunities of up-skilling and re-training the existing energy workforce. We will also discuss the importance of transferable skills and the potential of niche professionals in the oil and gas sector to apply their knowledge and expertise seamlessly in renewable energy fields.

The second half will do a deep dive into the existing and emerging role of women in the energy field. As the employment landscape is poised to shift, discussions will highlight the vital role that women are playing in decentralised renewable energy solutions and their involvement in installation, maintenance, management and leadership activities. Experiences across Global North and Global South countries will be shared to show the spectrum of women’s engagement in the energy transition.
