One of Repsol’s pillars of its circular economy model is progressing in eco-design from all perspectives, including this principle when designing its production processes and equipment as well as for the design of its products and services.

The application of the eco-design principle in the lubricants division has led to modify the products packaging by incorporating 60% of recycled plastic content. This solution was made a reality following an investigation to develop a technology allowing to incorporate high contents of mechanically recycled post-consumer plastic into the packaging, while maintaining the company’s high durability and performance standards.

This case is an example of how eco-design support closing the loop of plastic materials to progress in the circular economy model, while acting as a lever for the energy transition by reducing the carbon footprint by 25% compared to previous packaging.
