Held in Singapore from 21-22 September, ahead of SpillAsia 2026, the IMO Research and Development (R&D) Forum brought together regulators, researchers, industry representatives and emergency responders from around the world to examine emerging preparedness and response challenges associated with the maritime energy transition.
The September edition celebrates the power of collaboration, with the IMO-Ipieca Global Initiative reaching 30 years of partnership, Ipieca and OCIMF signing an MoU, and Ipieca members joining forces to advance methane management, lower-carbon solutions and energy security. We also share environmental performance success stories and insights on strengthening worker welfare and social performance.
2026 marks 30 years since the Global Initiative (GI) was established. Throughout that time, the GI has helped to prevent and minimise the impact of spills on the marine environment, protect local communities and ensure the safety of maritime workers.
Ipieca and OCIMF have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen collaboration in support of sustainable maritime transport and the production and use of fuels. The agreement was signed in London by Brian Sullivan, CEO of Ipieca, and Don Davis, Managing Director of OCIMF.
