September has seen a number of low-carbon fuels announcements, with various initiatives from Ipieca members Moeve, OMV, PETRONAS and Shell as well as stakeholders IRENA and ICAO, aiming to provide alternative fuels to support the decarbonisation of shipping or aviation.

One of Ipieca’s core roles is to support UN conventions and agreements. We provide technical input when requested, raise awareness and support, and develop good practice guidance that enables the oil, gas and alternative energy industry to advance these global frameworks.

The August round-up celebrates the Northern Lights project’s successful first injection and storage of CO2, and shares a new Scope 3 environmental value trading scheme which promotes sustainable aviation fuel. We also highlight collaboration to support Australia’s marine biodiversity, as well as initiatives from Ipieca association members and partners, such as a nationwide industry workforce survey and a regional office to support maritime coordination in the Pacific.

Ipieca Sustainability and Social Performance Director Isabel Miranda on how Ipieca supports the oil and gas industry’s participation in international collaboration to transition to a low-carbon world in a way that is just and fair for workforces, communities and consumers.
