Established to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the theme of this year’s UN Human Rights Day is ‘Our everyday essentials’, reaffirming the value of human rights. While often taken for granted, they are essential and shape our everyday lives, from the right to safety, to speak freely and participate in decisions that affect us, they are the bedrock of our lives.
Ipieca provides global leadership on the interaction between the oil, gas and alternative energy industry, people and communities, acting as a forum to promote and share good practice.
Ipieca and its members took part in the initial consultation and development of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) which make respect for human rights a core expectation of business. Since the UNGPs were launched, Ipieca has worked to produce guidance and tools covering a wide range of human rights issues to support the industry to operationalise the UNGPs.
Prioritising human rights can enable a company to play a transformative role in society. Ipieca members have embedded human rights in their corporate processes and on-the-ground operations and activities.
