In 2008, the IOGP-Ipieca Health Committee published Health performance indicators: a guide for the oil and gas industry.
In 2023, the guidance was revised to simplify the scoring system, and introduce a more granular list of scores to enable reporting organizations to better reflect their continual improvement efforts.
Updates to the technical content of the HPI elements have been made to:
- Better reflect the increasing recognition of the importance of mental health in the workplace
- Respond to rising numbers of emerging infectious illnesses
- Continue to help improve future health performance through preventive actions
- Include fatigue and well-being
- Separate fitness for task and health surveillance into two elements
The principles described in the guidance document were used to develop two tools which could be used to:
- Assess health performance within individual companies
- Compare performance between different parts of a company and between participating companies
Both tools were used in 2022 to gauge health performance between 30 participating Ipieca and IOGP member companies. The results are published in this report. An executive summary is also available.
The scope of the health performance indicators reporting differs from that used for the safety, process safety and environmental performance reporting, in that data are included for both upstream and downstream activities.
