The High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is the main United Nations platform for reviewing and following up on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It provides a space for member states, civil society, NGOs and other stakeholders to discuss progress, share experiences and propose solutions to achieve the SDGs. This year the SDG Progress Report indicated that just 17% of the SDGs were on track for 2030 delivery.
The overarching theme for 2024 was ‘Reinforcing the 2030 agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions’ with a focus on SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16 and 17. The forum concluded with calls for urgent action, especially in conflict zones, and highlighted the need for sustainable, resilient solutions and global partnerships to accelerate progress towards the SDGs.

Ipieca and the SDGs
Ipieca brings the oil, gas and alternative energy industry together to explore, articulate and mobilise the oil and gas industry to align its contribution to the realization of the SDGs.
In 2021, Ipieca, in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development launched Accelerating action: An SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector. The Roadmap aims to prioritise areas where the sector can significantly impact SDG progress by identifying key impact opportunities for the most material SDG goals and targets, coordinating effort across the entire industry to establish a collective sector pathway to 2030.
Find out how Ipieca members are contributing to achieving the SDGs, in the SDG Roadmap progress report: April 2024.
