As part of Ipieca's continuing support to the triennial oil spill conference series (Spillcon, International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) and Interspill), Ipieca had a strong presence at this year's Spillcon, the international oil spill conference for the Asia-Pacific region. The conference was hosted by the Australian Institute of Petroleum and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority in Perth, Australia.

Ipieca engaged in Spillcon activities, with a strong focus on this year's theme: sub-sea response. Ipieca Executive Director Brian Sullivan chaired a conference session on oil spill preparedness with a focus on offshore and subsea containment, which featured presentations from authors representing a range of international planning and response perspectives. In another session, Ipieca Oil Spill Group Manager Andy Nicoll presented the work of the Oil Spill Group in taking on the legacy of the Joint Industry Project on Oil Spill Preparedness and Response as the driver behind continuous improvement in this important industry discipline.

In the exhibition hall, Ipieca teamed up with Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) to showcase industry advances in oil spill preparedness and response from an association perspective. Ipieca also co-presented highlights from the new Source Control Emergency Response Planning Guide for Subsea Wells, with IOGP.

As the curtain comes down on Spillcon, we look forward to next year where the next conference in the triennial series, IOSC, will be hosted in New Orleans. Ipieca, as a strategic and permanent sponsor of the oil spill conference series, will have a significant presence again.
