The Ipieca annual sustainability reporting survey highlights emerging practices and developments in the sustainability reporting of Ipieca member companies.

The results provide an overview of current practices, identify widely used performance indicators and emerging trends, allow companies to learn from their peers, and improve industry communication around sustainability issues. The results also cover a range of cross-cutting topics for Ipieca and its members, including just transition, supply chain and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Key findings:

  • 90% of respondents use the Ipieca-API-IOGP Sustainability reporting guidance to inform their reporting.
  • More than 80% of respondents support/plan to support their sustainability report with additional topical reports, such as climate change risks and opportunities, human rights, and biodiversity.
  • 90% of respondents link their executive compensation to sustainability performance.
  • 87% of respondents report to or reference the UN Sustainable Development Goals in their reports.
    Respondents felt their company’s activities/ contributions were most material to:
    SDG13 – Climate action
    SDG7 – Affordable and clean energy
    SDG8 – Decent work and economic growth
    SDG6 – Clean water and sanitation
    SDG12 – Responsible consumption and production
  • Top five important sustainability topics:
    - Climate change and energy
    - Process safety and asset integrity
    - Occupational health and safety
    - Incident preparedness
    - Business ethics and transparency
