Ipieca looks forward to supporting the aims of the OGDC to achieve near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030 and to limit routine flaring to zero by 2030.

Today at COP28 UAE, the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) was launched to help rally a broad set of oil and gas companies to achieve near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030 and to limit routine flaring to zero by 2030.

Ipieca Executive Director Brian Sullivan said, ‘Ipieca, the global oil and gas industry association for advancing environmental and social performance, welcomes the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC).

We look forward to supporting the aims of the OGDC to expand signatories, promote adoption of guidance, standard and frameworks, and access technical support to achieve the commitments.

The aims align strongly with the climate pillar of the Ipieca Principles for our global membership, which reflect our role in promoting awareness and alignment with UN agreements and promotion of good practices to support their delivery.’

Ipieca and its members support the Paris Agreement and its aims. The first two of the eight Ipieca Principles, a condition of Ipieca membership, are:

  1. Support the Paris Agreement and its aims.
  2. Advance emissions reduction and innovation and enable adoption of low-carbon products and solutions across oil, gas and/or alternative energy.

Since 1988, Ipieca and its members have developed good practice guidance and tools to reduce greenhouse emissions (GHG), enhance energy efficiency, enable and support the sustainable scale up of energy transition solutions, sharing this freely with the wider industry.
