Carbon capture and storage (CCS) will likely be key to the transformation of the energy system.

The IPCC Sixth Assessment Report attaches considerable importance to CCS, with most global modelled mitigation pathways which achieve net zero including deployment of CCS, including the pathway which relies heavily on renewables technologies. CCS is key to enabling low-carbon fuels and electricity to be used in transport, homes and the industrial sector.

Ipieca, OGCI, SPE Gaia, and IOGP collaborated on a webinar series sharing knowledge and good practice around the scaling up of CCS technology, including key issues, environmental responsibility, financial incentives and liability concerns.

This document provides a high-level summary of each webinar including key insights from each, access to the on-demand recordings and links to related resources:

  • Webinar one: Carbon Takeback Obligations – an opportunity to accelerate deployment of carbon capture and storage?
  • Webinar two: Technological solutions for negative emissions and CO2 removal, an essential tool to limit global warming and protect the planet?
  • Webinar three: CCUS learnings from the Midwest Regional Carbon Initiative
  • Webinar four: The role of CCS for industries to reach net-zero emissions
  • Webinar five: Accelerating CCUS uptake through development in clusters and hubs
