Carbon capture and storage (CCS) will be critical for meeting the aims of the Paris Agreement. It's an essential component of the energy transition and the transformation of the global energy system during the 21st century.

Widespread deployment of CCS could enable low-carbon fuels and electricity to be used in transport and homes and in key parts of the energy-intensive industrial sector, including the reduction of process emissions. Combined with bioenergy (using biomass for energy), CCS has the potential for negative emissions; this could be instrumental in achieving net-zero emissions during the second half of this century. Rapid and large-scale adoption of CCS is required to meet the aims of the Paris Agreement.
