The Ipieca monthly article round-up showcases recent sustainability-related achievements, projects and news from Ipieca members and organizations that Ipieca partners with, demonstrating their commitment to advancing environmental and social performance across oil and gas and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The April edition highlights the importance of collaboration in achieving the aims of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It features our recently launched 'SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector', developed in collaboration with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Chevron and Toyota pursue strategic alliance on hydrogen

In an important step towards building a US hydrogen economy, Chevron and automobile company Toyota have signed a memorandum of understanding focused on three main priorities: hydrogen related public policy; understanding current and future demand for fuel cell electric vehicles; and research and development opportunities for hydrogen powered transportation and storage.

Ecopetrol on the road to net-zero carbon emissions

Colombia's Ecopetrol has announced its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 with an intermediate target of a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. The Colombian company has developed a roadmap to support the realisation of its net-zero plans with short, medium and long-term actions.

Equinor

Equinor to submit its energy transition plan for advisory vote to shareholders

One of the first companies in the industry to introduce such a measure, Equinor will invite shareholders to actively engage with its energy transition plan, which will be updated and presented for an advisory vote every three years, with progress reported on annually. The plan will support the company's net-zero ambition and commitments to the environment and biodiversity.

ExxonMobil steps up advanced recycling to help address plastic waste

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, ExxonMobil is introducing three new chemical recycling initiatives that convert difficult-to-recycle plastics into raw materials for new products with the potential to repeat the process multiple times, contributing to a circular economy.

UK O&G industry and government partner on North Sea transition deal

The UK government has announced a new partnership with the UK oil and gas industry aiming to produce lower-carbon energy solutions to tackle climate change and accelerate action towards the nation's target of net-zero emissions by 2050, whilst supporting communities, the economy and providing new jobs across the UK.

Total to support Iraq to end flaring and produce solar power

French supermajor Total is set to finalise a deal said to be worth USD$7 billion to support Iraq to scale up the country's gas production, capture flaring gas and produce up to 1GW of electricity from solar energy.

Ipieca and WBCSD launch SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector

Ipieca, in collaboration with WBCSD has launched Accelerating action: An SDG Roadmap for the oil and gas sector. The Roadmap identifies how Ipieca, as a global oil and gas industry association, and oil and gas companies working within the sector, can work towards a low-emissions future while contributing to a healthier and more prosperous world aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
