Cenovus donates US$3 million to further natural habitat conservation
Cenovus Energy has announced a donation of US$3 million to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Part of its updated social investment strategy, the donation will help conserve areas critical to biodiversity and ecosystem services, including grasslands, wetlands, lakes and forests across Western Canada.
Cepsa launches 2030 energy transition strategy
Cepsa has announced its new 2030 strategy ‘Positive motion’, which will see the company invest 7-8 billion euros as part of its strategy including green hydrogen and biofuels in Spain and Portugal. Cepsa has also set out a roadmap for reducing emissions, with a vision of going beyond net zero to net positive.
Cheniere launches collaboration to quantify, monitor, report and verify GHG emissions
Cheniere has announced a collaboration with natural gas midstream companies, methane detection technology providers and leading academic institutes to implement a greenhouse gas quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification programme across Cheniere’s operations and supply chain.

Equinor has received two licenses which will help develop the Norwegian continental shelf into a leading CO2 storage province, offering industrial solutions that will contribute to the decarbonisation of Europe.
McDermott joins industry experts on UK hydrogen hub and CCUS project
McDermott has joined a project led by the UK North Sea Transition Authority aimed at delivering a sustainable hydrogen supply to the UK. The Bacton Energy Hub project will develop facilities to support low-carbon hydrogen production, carbon capture and underground storage by 2030, as well as renewable hydrogen production with offshore wind by 2050.
PETRONAS provides free solar energy to communities in Malaysia
PETRONAS has completed the pilot phase of ‘Rays of hope’, a corporate social responsibility programme providing free solar energy to enhance livelihoods at selected communities, orphanages and elderly care homes. The initiative will expand to reach additional homes and community-based centres across the nation by 2025.
Shell makes strong progress towards net zero
Shell has published its Energy transition progress report 2021 demonstrating the company’s progress over the past year. The report reviews how investment decisions and more than 50 collaborations have contributed to Shell’s climate targets.
TotalEnergies + ENEOS
TotalEnergies and ENEOS to study sustainable aviation fuel production
A collaboration between TotalEnergies and ENEOS will explore the feasibility of producing sustainable aviation fuel at ENEOS’s refinery in Yokohama City, Japan. The collaboration will help develop and support a sustainable aviation fuel value chain and contribute to Japan’s target of 10% sustainable aviation fuel use by 2030.
Tullow Oil supports access to education in Ghana
Tullow Oil is investing US$10 million over five years into senior high school accommodation infrastructure to increase the enrolment rate of rural pupils and deliver an increase in educational achievements across Ghana.

Ipieca insights from the 5th UN Environment Assembly
Ipieca attended the 5th UN Environment Assembly whose theme was ‘Strengthening actions for nature to achieve the SDGs’. Fourteen resolutions were adopted including a landmark plastics treaty, and resolutions on nature-based solutions and the circular economy to support sustainable development.

Supporting the Glasgow Climate Pact
Over 200 countries signed the Glasgow Climate Pact at COP26, which includes strengthening efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience to climate change and to provide the necessary finance for both. Ipieca is working with members and partners to drive environmental and social good practice across the energy transition and support the industry’s contribution to the Glasgow Climate Pact.
