IPIECA, the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues, will be hosting a webinar on community grievance mechanisms (CGMs) in the oil and gas industry, focusing on the IPIECA Manual for implementing operational-level grievance mechanisms and designing corporate frameworks, published in January 2015.
The webinar will provide an opportunity to better understand the key drivers for CGMs and how the manual can be used to assist in implementation and design. If you have any feedback on using the Manual or any practical issues related to CGMs that you would like to propose for discussion during the webinar, contact IPIECA.
The oil and gas industry recognises the importance of effective CGMs. This is because operational activities, even those achieving the highest standards, can have varied social and environmental impacts and can raise interest, concerns and complaints from individuals or communities. The IPIECA manual provides practical step-by-step guidance on how to plan and implement operational-level CGMs and how to design and manage corporate CGM frameworks.
The manual reflects the industry’s positive response to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) which promote the use, value and power of effective CGMs in facilitating access to remedy.
