BP's Kwinana Refinery in Western Australia is located in an area that has experienced significant reduction in river flows. In 1997 the refinery started the Water Minimisation Programme, with the aims of increasing water reuse, using lower quality water and achieving zero discharge of process wastewater to environmentally sensitive areas.
