Revision 2016

The response to an oil spill often results in the rapid generation and accumulation of large quantities of oily waste. This waste often exceeds the capacity of the locally available waste management infrastructure which can slow or temporarily halt oil recovery and clean-up operations. This GPG sets out the principles involved in identifying and planning for management and minimization of various waste streams including offshore and onshore spills, and upstream as well as downstream operations from oil exploration and production, processing, refining, transport and storage activities.
