Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of the key technologies that could enable a low-carbon energy transition. Some large-scale CCS projects are a reality today. However, scaling up the deployment of CCS by a factor of more than a hundred-fold could be required over the course of this century, with a significant proportion needed before mid-century.

CO₂-enhanced oil recovery (EOR) links carbon capture with oil recovery, offering both emissions reduction and energy security benefits. Yet, ensuring permanent CO₂ storage, verifying net climate gains, and addressing economic and technical barriers remain essential to realizing its potential.

The webinar will offer a range of perspectives around CO₂-EOR, including but not limited to topics such as latest research and science, operator experiences, as well as challenges and opportunities related to the CO₂-EOR process.

Speakers:

  • Sean McCoy, Associate Professor at the University of Calgary
  • William Barrett, Vice President of Product Development at 1PointFive
  • Raphael Augusto Mello Vieira, Senior Technical Advisor at Petrobras
  • Moderated by Shannon Gray, Product Development Engineer at 1PointFive and Ipieca’s CCS Task Force Co-chair
