The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation on topics of mutual interest, including shipping decarbonisation, lower-carbon marine fuels, safety and environmental performance, industry guidance and good practices and capacity building across the maritime and energy sectors.
Through the agreement, the organisations will exchange knowledge and expertise, participate in relevant committees and meetings, support joint workshops and peer learning activities, and explore opportunities for collaborative work on shared priorities.
The MoU builds on existing engagement between the two organisations and reflects a shared commitment to supporting safe, practical and environmentally responsible approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts from maritime transport, while maintaining high standards of safety and operational integrity.
By bringing together expertise from across the energy and maritime sectors, Ipieca and OCIMF aim to enhance knowledge sharing and strengthen collaboration on challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to lower carbon shipping.
Don Davis, OCIMF Managing Director, said: ‘OCIMF is delighted to formalise its working relationship with Ipieca through this MoU. The cooperative framework will enable both organisations to build on shared knowledge and expertise on sustainable maritime transport and the production and use of fuels. We’re looking forward to developing a closer connection with Ipieca on mutual topics of interest where we can leverage our respective strengths to develop and align guidance, tools and good practices to support our members and industry in safely navigating maritime decarbonisation.’
Brian Sullivan, Ipieca CEO, said: ‘Shipping is a critical link in global energy supply chains and an important part of the broader energy transition. This agreement reflects the value of closer collaboration between the energy and maritime sectors to share knowledge, build capability and support safe, practical and environmentally responsible approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts from maritime transport.
‘We look forward to working with OCIMF to strengthen cooperation on topics including marine fuels, safety, environmental performance and industry good practices in support of a more sustainable maritime sector.’
