bp and Corteva launch biofuel feedstock joint venture
bp and Corteva have launched Etlas, a 50:50 joint venture to produce oilseed-based biofuel feedstocks—such as canola, mustard and sunflower—for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. The venture aims to supply around one million metric tonnes of feedstock annually by the mid‑2030s, with initial production starting in 2027 using crops grown on existing farmland between food crop cycles.
Pathways Alliance has supported a new technology, H2nanO’s SolarPass™, which uses sunlight‑activated, floating photocatalyst beads to break down hard‑to‑treat contaminants in oil sands mine water with minimal energy input. The innovation has progressed from lab research to a successful pilot at Imperial Oil’s Kearl site, demonstrating a low‑carbon, waste‑free approach to mine water treatment.
Eni and ILO expand partnership on safety, health and social protection to the Republic of Congo
Eni and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have expanded their partnership to the Republic of Congo to strengthen occupational safety and health systems and improve access to social health protection for workers in agri‑business supply chains, building on successful projects in Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire. The initiative supports national strategies and UN Sustainable Development Goals by promoting safer working conditions, wider social protection coverage and inclusive development across the agricultural value chain.
Petrobras signs strategic partnership in the renewable energy segment in Brazil
Petrobras and Lightsource bp have signed a strategic partnership to form a joint venture in Brazil’s onshore renewable energy sector, under which Petrobras will acquire a 49.99% stake in Lightsource bp’s Brazilian subsidiaries to enter the solar power market. The partnership supports portfolio diversification and the expansion of renewable energy generation in line with Petrobras’ 2026–2030 Business Plan.
TotalEnergies signs renewable power agreement to supply Google data centres in Malaysia
TotalEnergies has signed a 21‑year agreement with Google to supply 1 TWh of certified renewable energy from the Citra Energies solar plant in northern Malaysia to support Google’s data centre operations. The project, developed under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Programme, is scheduled to begin construction in early 2026 and reflects both companies’ commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity and decarbonising digital infrastructure in emerging markets.
Woodside Energy and Recfishwest have collaborated to install the Dampier Artificial Reef off the Western Australian coast; a purpose‑built reef designed to enhance marine biodiversity and create new recreational fishing opportunities in the Pilbara region. Backed by scientific research and community input, the reef consists of 48 concrete modules, and is intended to support fish habitats, promote local tourism and sustainable community benefits.
The UN Environment Assembly delivered a new strategy for UNEP which prioritises the interconnection of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, and adopted 11 resolutions covering issues including climate resilience, minerals and metals, and chemicals and waste.

Ipieca insights from the 14th UN Annual Forum on Business and Human Rights
The Ipieca secretariat and 21 representatives from 9 member companies participated in the annual forum reflecting on implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Ipieca organised bilateral meetings with several key stakeholders and members on upcoming priorities and evolving stakeholder expectations on corporate responsibility, human rights and climate change.

COP30 outcomes and on the ground insights
Framed as the ‘Implementation COP’, COP30 approved a robust ‘Global Mutirão’ package of decisions designed to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, strengthen multilateralism and connect climate action to people and nature. Ipieca participated in several side events, including co-hosting an official UNFCCC side event ‘Just transition and adaptation: a global business dialogue’.
Fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the industry
Ipieca convened its second water peer-to-peer workshop in Doha, Qatar, hosted by Qatar Shell. The workshop covered the latest thinking, good practices and trends on water management and stewardship in the oil, gas and alternative energy industry, and was open to participants from all energy companies, not just Ipieca members.

We also highlight initiatives from our partner organisations and share insights from key United Nations meetings.
The May round-up showcases members’ commitment to support the local communities where they operate including flood relief support, fund raising for local non-profits, scholarships and internships. We also cover progress on biofuels, nature-based solutions and solar facilities as well as a partnership approach to assist industrial customers’ decarbonisation efforts.
