bp invests in WasteFuel, advances plans for waste-to-bio-methanol plant in UAE
bp has invested USD 10 million in WasteFuel, a biofuels company planning to develop a global network of plants to convert municipal and agricultural waste into lower-carbon fuels such as bio-methanol. Biofuels can play a significant role in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, whilst supporting a circular economy.
Report highlights public perceptions of ecological and energy transition in Spain
Fundación Cepsa and Red2Red have presented the first state report from the Just Transition Observatory on Social perception of the ecological transition in Spain, 2022-2023. The report identifies only 51% of the population surveyed acknowledges little to no concept of the ‘ecological transition’, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and increasing engagement around challenges, opportunities and expectations to support a just transition.
ExxonMobil announces acquisition of CCUS solutions developer, Denbury
The acquisition of experienced carbon capture, utilisation and storage solutions developer Denbury will provide ExxonMobil with the largest owned and operated CO2 pipeline network in the United States, at 1,300 miles.
McDermott to collaborate on sustainable aviation fuel facilities
McDermott will provide front end engineering and early planning services for Gevo’s development of multiple sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facilities in North America. The first facility, Net-Zero 1, is expected to produce up to 65 million gallons of SAF, diesel and renewable gasoline with a net-zero footprint across its life cycle.
Petrobras tests marine fuel with 24% renewable content
Petrobras has begun testing the performance of bunker fuel which has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 17% by volume, compared to standard mineral bunker fuel. The test will take two months to complete, including monitoring the consumption, power produced and distance travelled, along with how the fuel performs in relation to the filters and purification systems.
PETRONAS collaborates with partners to accelerate methane emissions reduction
In collaboration with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) energy operators, governmental agencies and international organizations, PETRONAS launched the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Leadership Program. The initiative, delivered through masterclasses and workshops, will focus on capacity and capability building to reduce methane emissions.
Producing plastic waste derived oil at scale for certified circular polymers
TotalEnergies, Aramco and SABIC have for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa successfully converted oil derived from plastic waste into ISCC+ certified circular polymers.
