Bayou Bend project aims to advance CO2 storage along the US gulf coast
Chevron, in partnership with Equinor and TotalEnergies, is advancing the Bayou Bend project, a major carbon dioxide (CO₂) transportation and storage initiative along the USA Gulf Coast. Spanning approximately 140,000 acres onshore and offshore in south-east Texas, the project aims to support regional industries in reducing carbon intensity.
Collaboration between offshore industries results in new unified medical standard
A new unified medical assessment standard for offshore workers in the oil, gas and wind sectors across Europe has been launched. NL Offshore Medical replaces the NOGEPA Offshore Examination (Standard 11) and now includes additional criteria such as working at height, streamlining health and safety compliance across the European oil, gas and wind sectors.
EUR 500 million finance agreement to convert Livorno refinery into a biorefinery
A 15-year finance agreement has been signed by the European Investment Bank and Eni to convert Eni’s Livorno refinery in Tuscany into a biorefinery. The project will produce hydrogenated biofuels like hydrogenated vegetable oil from renewable raw materials, such as cooking oil and agrifood waste, and will contribute to emissions reductions in the transport sector.
Highlights of GeoPark’s socio-environmental work in Meta, Casanare and Putumayo in Q2
GeoPark highlights its continued commitment to sustainable development in Colombia’s Meta, Casanare and Putumayo regions. Key achievements include hiring over 1,700 local workers, launching infrastructure and health initiatives, advancing environmental projects like a wastewater treatment plant, and facilitating more than 160 dialogue opportunities with communities and local authorities.
Promoting sustainability and energy transition training with free content for all audiences
Fundae and Moeve have partnered under the Digitalízate initiative to offer free, accessible training on sustainability and the energy transition. The collaboration includes 12 multimedia courses on topics like green hydrogen, sustainable fuels and renewable energy, addressing major challenges of the energy transition whilst aligning with current labour market demands to boost employability and prepare the workforce for a greener future.
TotalEnergies expands investments to preserve carbon sinks
TotalEnergies has partnered with Arkansas-based NativState to invest in 13 sustainable forestry projects across the southern United States, covering 100,000 hectares. The initiative aims to conserve forests, enhance biodiversity, and generate certified carbon credits to offset part of TotalEnergies’ Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 2030 onwards.

Korea Launches ‘30×30 Alliance’ on the 2025 World Environment Day
On World Environment Day, Korea’s Ministry of Environment launched the ‘30×30 Alliance’ to advance biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration goals by 2030. The multi-stakeholder platform brings together government, corporations, NGOs and academia to support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, focusing on conserving 30% of land and sea and restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems through inclusive, cross-sectoral collaboration.

Celebrating a quarter of a century of collaboration at UNEP-WCMC
Over the past 25-years as a UNEP-integrated biodiversity centre, UNEP-WCMC has expanded its role in supporting global biodiversity conventions, advanced sustainability research through initiatives like the Trade Hub, and partnered with the private sector to improve outcomes for nature.
Having achieved its original intent of supporting an industry focus on methane reduction, the Methane Guiding Principles has been retired. Its resources have been transferred to IOGP’s publications library.
UN Climate Change launches new report on advancing a just transition
The report examines how countries are integrating just transition principles into their nationally determined contributions and long-term low emissions development strategies, implementation in key sectors and tracking progress.
Ipieca insights from the Bonn Climate Change Conference
The UNFCCC Climate Conference in Bonn, Germany served as a key milestone ahead of COP30. Ipieca attended as an official UN observer and reported on discussions around adaptation indicators, mitigation strategies, Article 6 implementation, and the operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund, all of which will shape negotiations at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
The May round-up showcases members’ commitment to support the local communities where they operate including flood relief support, fund raising for local non-profits, scholarships and internships. We also cover progress on biofuels, nature-based solutions and solar facilities as well as a partnership approach to assist industrial customers’ decarbonisation efforts.
