Baker Hughes
Fuel‑flexible gas turbine certified for marine propulsion
Baker Hughes has received certification from RINA for its NovaLT™16 gas turbine for use in marine propulsion, marking a step forward in the application of low‑carbon technologies in shipping. Designed to operate with multiple fuel types, the turbine supports greater flexibility in fuel choice, including options that can help reduce emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.
How wildlife migration informs Chevron’s plans in Colorado
Chevron’s Comprehensive Wildlife Programme collaborates with local organisations to monitor local animals and support their natural habitats. Incorporating wildlife migration data into its operational planning in Colorado, Chevron uses insights on animal movement patterns to better inform the placement and management of infrastructure. By aligning development activities with ecological considerations, the approach aims to minimise disruption to habitats and support biodiversity alongside energy operations.
Clean cooking programme reaches 1 million people in Mozambique Eni has celebrated a major milestone in its clean cooking programme, reaching 1 million beneficiaries with the distribution of more than 200,000 improved cookstoves across the country. The programme provides access to improved cooking technologies, reducing fuel use by up to 75%, lowering indoor air pollution, and minimising health impacts. Eni aims to provide access to clean cooking solutions to more than 10 million people by 2027, and 20 million by 2030.
Petrobras and BNDES announce ProFloresta+ auction winners Petrobras and Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) have announced the winners of the first ProFloresta+ auction, an initiative focused on supporting ecological restoration projects in the Amazon. The initiative focuses on generating carbon credits linked to native vegetation recovery, helping to stimulate Brazil’s carbon market while delivering biodiversity gains. It is expected to mobilise approximately BRL 450 million in investments for planting alone, generate 63,000 green jobs, enable the planting of more than 25 million native trees, and capture 5 million tonnes of carbon.
Repsol has begun large‑scale production of 100% renewable fuels at its Puertollano facility, marking a step forward in the commercialisation of low‑carbon energy solutions for transport. Produced entirely from renewable feedstocks, these fuels are designed to be used in existing engines and infrastructure, enabling immediate emissions reductions without requiring fleet changes. The milestone reflects a broader strategy to expand industrial capacity and accelerate the deployment of renewable alternatives across multiple transport segments.
Sonangol youth incubator programme featured at the Angola-European Union Business Forum
Of the 22 projects selected for exhibition on this international platform, 15 belonged to entrepreneurs from SonaJovem an incubation programme launched by Sonangol. It aims to empower young Angolan innovators (aged 18 to 40) by transforming their creative ideas into sustainable, high-impact startups that stimulate the country's economy.
MethaneLive: using data to support methane emissions management TotalEnergies shares insights from implementing MethaneLive, its global methane emissions monitoring platform which leverages real-time data from 13,000 sensors across TotalEnergies’ operated onshore and offshore upstream sites. Since its launch in early 2026, MethaneLive has detected 35 fugitive methane emissions at various facilities, helping to identify emissions sources and prioritise mitigation actions across operations.
The role of LPG in maritime decarbonisation A new report from WLGA and Lloyd’s Register highlights the potential of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a practical and scalable option for reducing emissions in the maritime sector. The article outlines how LPG could support near‑term decarbonisation while complementing longer‑term energy transition pathways.
International Air Transport Association (IATA) + International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
Strengthening cooperation on sustainable aviation fuels IATA and ICAO have deepened their collaboration to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). The partnership focuses on aligning efforts across policy, industry and technical frameworks, with the aim of enabling greater production and deployment of SAF globally. By reinforcing collaboration between industry and regulators, the initiative supports the long‑term transition to lower‑carbon aviation fuels.
Taskforce on Inequality and Social‑related Financial Disclosures (TISFD)
Draft framework to improve visibility of inequality‑related risks TISFD has released a draft framework designed to help organisations better identify, assess and disclose inequality and people‑related risks and opportunities. By providing guidance on integrating social factors into financial decision‑making, the framework seeks to bring greater consistency and visibility to an area that is often less clearly defined than environmental risks. Ipieca will be providing feedback on the draft which is now open for consultation.
Ipieca + International Maritime Organization (IMO)
Insights from IMO seminar on methane‑based fuels Ipieca attended an IMO technical seminar exploring methane‑based fuels and their role in reducing emissions from shipping. The discussion covered the current state of these fuels, associated emissions considerations, and the opportunities and challenges in supporting maritime decarbonisation pathways.
