ACP + Arpel
ACP and Arpel conferences support Latin America and Caribbean energy transition
Ipieca association members Arpel and ACP held conferences in Peru and Colombia, respectively earlier this month. Ipieca provided inputs to panels aimed to support company contributions to the energy transition and sustainable development, and raised awareness of Ipieca's work in support of local companies' environmental and social performance.
Airborne lasers prove successful in emissions reductions
Cenovus has revealed how the use of emergent airborne-based methane monitoring technology has helped make sizable reductions in the company's emissions. The Gas Mapping LiDAR technology developed by Bridger Photonics generates 3D maps of oil and gas fields which can be used to pinpoint leaks and quantify methane concentrations more efficiently than ground-based monitoring methods.
Offsetting CO2 emissions from residential customers through reforestation
Cepsa will offset around 55,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emitted by residential customers heating oil this winter. The offsets will be achieved through funding forestry projects, several of which are in areas affected by forest fires.
New life for old platforms in the Gulf of Thailand
Several of Chevron's retired offshore platform jackets have been repurposed as artificial reefs in the heavily overfished Gulf of Thailand, providing local fish populations with a habitat and supporting biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Advancing reconciliation with First Nations Peoples
ConocoPhillips Australia has implemented a reconciliation action plan aimed to ensure that opportunities created through ConocoPhillips Australia's business and supply chain are equitably accessible by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, businesses and organizations.
INPEX announces clean hydrogen/ammonia project in Japan
A final investment decision has been taken on drilling operations and the construction of facilities for the demonstration Kashiwazaki clean hydrogen/ammonia project to be implemented at the INPEX-owned Higashi-Kashiwazaki gas field in the Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
Woodside Energy increases support for regional communities
The company will invest up to A$65 million over the next five years to support community development in Western Australia. In 2023, Woodside's community partnerships will focus on areas including education, youth, local business and not-for-profit organizations, infrastructure, health and housing support.
Ipieca becomes a supporter of Building Responsibly
Ipieca has formalized its support of Building Responsibly, a global, business-led coalition committed to promoting the rights and welfare of engineering and construction workers. Adding to the existing collaboration between the two organizations, this will enable further engagement on enhancing worker welfare throughout the oil and gas industry supply chain.
Ipieca has joined the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, a global non-profit organization that joins moral and market imperatives to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and trusted economic system that addresses the needs of people and the planet.
Insights from the ninth GI WACAF regional conference
The Ipieca-IMO Global Initiative for West, Central and Southern Africa conference took place in Accra, Ghana and brought together 120 participants, including key government and industry representatives from the 21 African partner countries to discuss global oil spill preparedness and response capabilities.

As a non-lobby organization with UNFCCC observer status, Ipieca was present at COP27. Ipieca hosted, participated in, and listened to a number of events, workshops and meetings which explored collaborative pathways to deliver a sustainable energy transition which leaves no one behind.
