Winning the battle with malaria – Equatorial Guinea’s transformative 20-year initiative
ConocoPhillips and partners have spent 20 years supporting the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Project in Equatorial Guinea, a public-private initiative that has cut malaria prevalence among children by 75%, reduced under-five mortality by 78%, and achieved a 97% drop in mosquito transmission. The programme’s success earned ConocoPhillips the Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year award at African Energy Week 2025, highlighting its transformative impact on public health through sustained collaboration and evidence-based interventions.
Eni successfully completes project for quality education
Eni, in partnership with AVSI Foundation and Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Education, completed a three-year project to improve access to quality education by rehabilitating 22 public schools, upgrading infrastructure and training teachers. Through creating more inclusive, healthier learning environments, the initiative boosted exam success rates from 57% to 78.7% and reduced dropout rates from 3% to 1%.
ExxonMobil and BASF join forces to advance low-emission hydrogen through methane pyrolysis technology
ExxonMobil and BASF are working together to develop methane pyrolysis technology for low-emission hydrogen production. This method of hydrogen production avoids process-related CO2 emissions, uses less electricity and does not need water. The partners plan to build a demonstration plant in Baytown, Texas, with the goal of commercialising the technology.
GeoPark has adopted the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework, integrating nature-related risks and opportunities into its decision-making to strengthen biodiversity, water management, and climate resilience. The company will report progress in its sustainability report and is developing a Socio-Ecological Plan with the Humboldt Institute to enhance ecosystem understanding and conservation efforts.
ProFloresta+ call for proposals to acquire 5 million carbon credits for Amazon recovery
Petrobras and the Brazilian development bank BNDES launched the first ProFloresta+ call for proposals to purchase 5 million carbon credits from reforestation and native forest restoration projects within the Amazon biome. The initiative aims to stimulate Brazil’s carbon market, promote biodiversity, and support climate goals through large-scale nature-based solutions, and is expected to generate more than BRL 450 million for recovery of the Amazon rainforest.
TotalEnergies commits USD 100 million to Climate Investment in support of the OGDC Community
During COP30, TotalEnergies announced a USD 100 million investment in Climate Investment’s Venture Strategy fund to accelerate technologies that reduce emissions across the oil and gas value chain. This commitment supports the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) and aims to scale proven solutions like methane detection, carbon capture, and energy efficiency, reinforcing collaborative efforts for an accelerated energy transition.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
How ISO is making biodiversity measurable
ISO has introduced ISO 17298, the first international biodiversity standard, providing a framework for organisations to assess, manage, and report their impacts on nature. It aligns with global frameworks like the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and aims to embed biodiversity into corporate accountability and climate action.
OGDC launches 2025 Status Report: Implementing Action
OGDC has released its 2025 Status report, showing progress toward industry-wide decarbonisation through its 55 signatories, which represent 40% of global oil production, and two-thirds of which are state-owned companies. The report highlights increased transparency, interim 2030 reduction targets and action plans, and USD 32 billion invested in low-carbon solutions, reinforcing momentum on industry climate action.
