Joint venture to complete first phase of innovative Waste Heat Recovery project
ADNOC Refining, a joint venture between ADNOC, Eni and OMV, is close to completing the first phase of its project which will recycle waste heat generated from the plant to produce up to an additional 230 megawatts of electricity per day. The project is expected to increase power production and thermal efficiency by around 30% with no additional carbon dioxide emissions.
Agreement with MOECO to unlock Japan's significant geothermal potential
A collaboration between Chevron New Energies and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co (MOECO) will explore the technical and commercial feasibility of advanced geothermal power generation in Japan. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of Advanced Closed Loop technology, which has the potential to enable access to geothermal resources at a wider range of temperatures and geologies than conventional steam turbine-reliant projects.
New report and sector accord foster collaboration towards net-zero ambition
A new report from Energy Resources Aotearoa details how collaboration across the energy sector and with the New Zealand government is key to an affordable energy transition. The publication of the Fuelling the energy transition report coincides with the launch of the Energy Resources Sector Net Zero Accord, under which signatories agree to share best practice and advance emissions reductions and the development of low-emissions pathways to support the transition.
World's first commercial agreement on cross-border CO2 transportation and storage
The Northern Lights joint venture owned by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies has signed the world's first commercial agreement for the transport of carbon dioxide captured from an ammonia and fertiliser plant in the Netherlands, to a permanent storage facility under the seabed off the coast of Norway. The agreement is an important step in the development of essential infrastructure and value chains for the large-scale decarbonization of Europe.
QatarEnergy affiliates launch the world's largest blue ammonia facility
A collaboration between QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions and Qatar Fertiliser Company will establish the first world-scale blue ammonia project. With a capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum, the Ammonia-7 project will support the transition to low-carbon electricity.
Collaborating on digital sustainability solutions for hard-to-abate sectors
SLB and Aramco have announced plans to develop a digital platform that will enable companies in hard-to-abate industrial sectors to collect, measure, report and verify their emissions, whilst evaluating different decarbonization pathways. The open architecture of the platform will enable future extensions into other aspects of sustainability, such as water management, methane, flaring reduction, and carbon capture and storage.
Ipieca members continue to back OGCI's global initiative to cut methane emissions
Two more Ipieca members have signed on to the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) hosted 'Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative' in a bid to achieve near-zero methane emissions from oil and gas operations by 2030. SLB and Woodside Energy join Ipieca members Aramco, bp, Chevron, Eni, Equinor, ExxonMobil, Neptune Energy, Occidental, Petrobras, Repsol, Shell, TotalEnergies and Wintershall Dea as signatories, and Ipieca as a supporting organization.
IRENA and industry leaders launch Alliance for Industry Decarbonization
