Calendar5 June 2026

World Environment Day 2026 focuses on climate change with its theme of ‘Act now for climate’ recognising that climate change impacts are reshaping the planet.

Ipieca’s holistic approach to nature and climate

Nature and climate are interconnected. Healthy ecosystems buffer climate impacts, while natural climate solutions offer significant options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, ecosystems are in turn vulnerable to climate change.

Ipieca provides a platform for its members and stakeholders to work together to address both nature and climate change in a holistic way to maximise our impact on reversing nature loss and mitigating climate change.

We bring together experts from member companies with those from the UN, NGOs, academia and other sectors to support emissions reductions and the development of low-carbon operations and energy through industry expertise, good practice guidance and the promotion of breakthrough technologies.

Select Ipieca guidance

To mark World Environment Day 2026, we are sharing a selection of guidance which enables oil, gas and alternative energy companies to protect and enhance the environment and reduce emissions in support of climate action.

This Ipieca-OGCI guidance provides six natural climate solutions (NCS) management practices to ensure that NCS projects deliver positive outcomes to mitigate climate change that also benefit people and nature.
