Responsibilities

This is an entry level role in which the incumbent provides support primarily to Ipieca’s Nature portfolio (including Biodiversity & Ecosystems services (BES), water and marine spills). This role will involve a wide range of coordination and administrative tasks covering the spectrum of environmental issues e.g environmental stewardship, monitoring of global trends on environment, integration of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service management, effective management of water and marine spills in oil and gas operations and other.

The primary responsibilities of the intern will be to support the organisation of the Environment Group including BES and Water Working Groups (and Marine Spill Working Group) and the delivery of each group’s annual business plan, as well as carrying out other ad hoc tasks as they arise to support other Working Groups and Ipieca activities.

Key activities will include:

  • Primarily supporting the Nature programme (including Environment, BES, Water and Marine Spill) by coordinating and liaising with stakeholders, consultants and members to facilitate the timely development of guidance, reports and publications
  • Supporting other Ipieca activities as the need arises in taking minutes and liaising with members to facilitate the development of guidance and other material
  • Supporting the development of external communication materials
  • Conducting research on relevant topics and providing succinct summary briefings, often with minimal supervision
  • Organising and supporting teleconferences, Working Group meetings and external workshops, including handling logistics, preparatory work (presentations, agendas and pre-reads), taking minutes and following up on action points
  • Maintaining environment contact databases
  • Proof-reading key materials
  • Keeping website content up-to-date, developing internal and external communication materials for meeting and events and contributing to Ipieca’s activities on social media
  • Planning, organising and facilitating webinars with members and external stakeholders
  • Keeping members informed of Working Group activities and required actions, coordinating and responding to member queries
  • Analysis of data such as member survey results, prioritisation of priorities, member participation
  • Monitoring and coordinating Ipieca presence at external events
  • Providing briefings on industry trends through attending meetings
  • Carrying out ad-hoc tasks as they arise to support other Ipieca activities

Necessary qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmentally focused subject – minimum grade 2:1
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organise own workload and support multiple projects in busy work environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work with senior individuals
  • Strong analytical skills, and proficiency in Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Ability to work effectively in an intercultural environment, often with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and availability for occasional international travel

Preferable qualifications and experience

  • Experience working in a business environment or in a non-profit role liaising with the corporate sector
  • Experience writing internal reports and policy briefings
  • Knowledge/understanding of environmental issues for the oil and gas industry
  • Post graduate degree in relevant subject
